Fornos de Algodres to get new inn

The county of Fornos de Algodres, in the wine region of mountainous Centro, will get a new Estrela à Vista Inn with 4-stars. The investment of  8.5 million euros is a private-public partnership. The Estrela à Vista will offer  130 rooms with  a spa and heated pool. And, the hotel will aim to attract soccer clubs looking for a training hotel, as well. Ground has been broken, and eh in will open in 2011.  Fornos de Algodres has a fine 16th-century pillory, an 18th-century manor-house which was once the Town Hall, the Misericodia Church (also from the 18th century) and many charming wine estates with manor homes.
 

Best of the Best in Portugal

Turismo de Portugal’s recent awards focused on the best of the best in Portuguese tourism. One big winner was the recently opened Pousada de Estoi in the Algarve, which was considered the crème de la crème of Portugal's accommodations. Set in an 19th century palace which belonged to the Viscount of Estoi's family right up until 1987, the 63-room Pousada represents a €15 million investment. And, the five-star Tivoli Victoria in Vilamoura, which took the Best New Private Project award, has a panoramic view over the fairways of the new Victoria golf course, designed by legendary golfer and architect Arnold Palmer. Casa da Ínsua, a charm-style hotel located in the provincial town of Viseu, Centro, won up the Best Privately Renovated Project Award
 

Average hotel prices in Portugal fell 15% in 2009

The average hotel rate in Portugal fell by 15% (from 96 to 82 euros per night) in 2009, according to the Hotel Price Index (HPI) Hotels.com – making Portugal the 5th most affordable European destination. Lisbon’s average nightly rate was 84 euros- a 15% drop.

 

New Oitavos luxury Lisbon-area resort set to open

A new luxury hotel is set to open by the end of the summer 10. Situated 20 minutes form Lisbon, the Oitavos, will open on 1st September, 2010, with 142 guest rooms, a golf course built around sand dunes, and salt water swimming pools. The nature inspired property is located within the family owned Quinta da Marinha estate, within the Sintra-Cascais National Park. The new hotel will have a conference centre which can accommodate up to 300 people, plus five additional meeting and board rooms catering for up to 150.
 

Sana Hotels plans two new Lisbon hotels

The Sana Hotels chain is expanding their already extensive Lisbon list with two new high-end hotels. The Sana Amoreiras Royal Hotel will be just outside the city center, and the Sana Torre Vasco da Gamma Royal Hotel will be in the Nations Park area. This will bring the Sana collection in Lisbon to nine hotels.
